Should I install a 32 bit or 64 bit operating system?

Most new Toshiba notebook computers will give you the option to install a 32 bit or a 64 bit version of your operating system on startup. If you are unsure which one you should install Toshiba would recommend the 32 bit version.

What is the difference between the two?

32 bit operating systems currently have more software support and are currently more compatible with 3rd party programs and applications. This is the recommended version for people who would prefer easier installation and operation of their computer.

64 bit operating systems enhance the performance of your computer. It allows you to use more than 3GB of RAM on the computer and may greatly increase the program response times. You may however find that not all software is supported on this system.
