Toshiba sets the pace for business notebook computing with the Portégé R700

22 June 2010

Sydney, Australia, 22nd June 2010: In its most advanced notebook innovation for business users, Toshiba (Australia) Pty Ltd today announced the release of its lightest, full-function¹ (13.3’’) notebook with the Portégé R700.

“In our 25th year of producing notebooks, Toshiba has today delivered a notebook that is the perfect computing companion for executives who want a stylish, no-compromise, lightweight high performance notebook,” Matt Tumminello, Product Marketing Manager, Toshiba Information Systems Division said.

“Our long-standing engineering expertise has enabled us to design an ultra slim notebook that is 16.8mm tall and weighs only 1.1kg²,” he said.

Available from early July across Australia and New Zealand through selected retail and partner channels, the Portégé R700 delivers a blend of high performance and features from $2170.00 (Inc GST).

Groundbreaking technologies
To achieve a device like the Portégé R700, Toshiba has made major advances in three areas: heat management, chassis construction and antenna chip deployment.

Airflow Cooling Technology, co-developed by Intel® and Toshiba, allows Toshiba to integrate the latest Intel® Core family processors in the Portégé R700's slim casing while keeping the sound of the fan to a minimum.

An innovative magnesium-alloy honeycomb structure makes the Portégé R700 highly durable against flexing, providing even more protection for the screen and HDD.

By innovatively stacking the memory slots vertically, the Portégé R700 can accommodate up to 8GB RAM for even more powerful performance.

Travel light, work easily
The Graphite Black Portégé R700 enables business users to travel light without compromising on performance. Thanks to the integration of the latest Intel® standard voltage Core processors and the availability of an optical disc drive, the lightweight notebook is equipped to run even the most-demanding multimedia applications.

The Portégé R700 doesn’t compromise on battery life and can operate for an entire working day of up to eight hours on one battery³ charge.

The notebook also offers features to enhance its portability and appeal for business people including: a durable yet very elegant black magnesium-alloy cover with a matt finish; a 3D sensor for hard disk protection against drops and shocks°; a broad range of connectivity options and a non-reflective screen. The docking station supports HDMI, serial port, and USB 3.0 for fast data transfers.

Good for the planet too
“The environment is second nature to Toshiba and is a consideration in everything we do. Therefore, the Portégé R700 features Toshiba’s Eco Utility Software which helps users manage power use, maximise battery life and minimise environmental impact,” said Mr Tumminello.

“The Portégé R700 not only looks stylish, but is good for the planet too. Professionals, who are conscious about their energy consumption, will also feel good about its ENERGY STAR® 5.0 rating.”
